How should I line up in the
morning before the bell has rung?
*Keep hand to yourself and stay in line.
*Hold all school equipment quietly in your hands or set it on the ground
in front of you.
*Be silent when the door opens and be ready to greet Mrs. Meyers with a
"good morning"!

What do I do when I enter the
classroom in the morning?
*Come into the room quietly and unpack:
**Notebook on your desk
**Hang up your coat and backpack on the farthest
open hook
**Put your snack in your cubby
**Place anything for Mrs. Meyers on her desk
*Read the daily agenda on the whiteboard for instructions.
*Check in your homework with your table captain.

desk).
*Begin your morning work.
*If you have finished your morning work, read silently or finish work in
progress.
Where do I put things to give
to Mrs. Meyers?
When entering in the morning, place the following on Mrs. Meyers' desk:
*lunch money
*notes and completed bus pass
*field trip money
*signed permission slips
*book orders
*notes for Mrs. Meyers
Please do
NOT put these in the In-Box, as they are easily lost there.

When do I sharpen my pencil?
*You
should not need to sharpen any pencils. Pick up 2 sharp ones each morning
from the “sharp” can by Mrs. Meyers' desk.
*As they
become dull during the day, put them in the black container marked “Dull”
and get a new one.
*Pencil
sharpening will be a classroom job and will be done at the end of the day.
What should I do if my two
pencils break and Mrs. Meyers is teaching or students are working?
*Try to
wait until the teacher (or student) has stopped talking.
*If
this is not possible, quietly and without interrupting other students, walk
over and get a new pencil. Make sure you are replacing your pencils at
appropriate times! These times are:
o
Before
school
o
On the
way out to recess
o
After
school
How should I line up to leave the
room?
Once you are asked to line up, make sure you:
**Stop
what you are doing.
**Take
everything off of your desk and put it in the correct place.
**Push
your chair under your desk and line up quietly.

How and when can I get a drink of
water?
**Water
bottles can be filled before school or during recess at the back sink.
**After
recess you may quickly get a drink by placing your team’s H2O card on your
desk. Only one person per team should be at the water fountain. Start the
H2O card with the caption and move it clockwise around your team. Remember
that a water bottle is a privilege. If it becomes a toy, you will be asked
to leave it at home.
**Please
bring water only. Other drinks should be left in your lunch bag until
lunch.
What do I do with my homework?
**Turn
homework into your team caption, who will check it off and put it in your
team’s homework folder. Team captions are in charge of collecting homework
in the homework folder and then turning it into the inbox.
**Always
have a RED correcting pen or pencil ready for self-correction. Make sure it
is easy to get out quickly.
What do I do when I have a
question?
**Reread
the directions or rethink the question.
**Ask 3
people next to you if they can help you. (Remember: Ask 3B4ME!)
**Skip
the problem, raise your hand, and move ahead until I can get there…
What do I do when I get a
corrected paper back?
**Read
the comments and/or grade or score.
**Make
any corrections you’re asked to make and return to me by the next day.
**Be sure
to file your paper in the correct section of your binder (or, if it is your
Thursday folder, take it home that day). Remember, your parents can and
should look at your papers and through your binder at any time!
What should I do if I finish my
work early?
Make a choice,
but please be courteous of others working:
**Work on
any unfinished projects or class work
**Practice math facts
**Read silently
**
Practice spelling words
**Practice handwriting
**Ask to help Mrs. Meyers

What do I do if I need to use the
restroom?
**Make a
good decision based on what we are doing in class! Please wait until an
appropriate time to go. This means not leaving if Mrs. Meyers is teaching or
another student is up in front of the class.
**If you
must go and it is an emergency, QUIETLY take out one of your bathroom
passes, put it in the blue box by the door and take pass from the
wall. Put the pass back on the wall when you return and get
right to work.

What about snacks?
**Yes, we
will have a snack time every day (lunch is not until 12:30).
**Make
sure that the snacks you bring are healthy!
**To
avoid spills on the carpet and all over your important school materials,
water is the only drink allowed in the classroom. (Other drinks are okay at
lunch).
**Please
keep your snack in your cubby so you can grab it easily when it is snack
time (normally, immediately following first recess during teacher
read-aloud).

What about using classroom or pod
computers?
**Computer usage will be for educational purposes only,
and only with permission of Mrs. Meyers.
**Any use
of computers during recess must be approved by Ms. Shuck ahead of time, or
your privileges will be taken away.

What if I am absent?
**If
you are absent, missed work will need to be made up. A “While You Were Out”
form will be on your desk with the assignments listed on it when you come
back. If you are unsure about any assignments, see the Absentee Helper for that
week.
**You are
not expected to be working on homework at home while you are seriously ill.
However, I expect all work to be completed and turned in after you return. I
will make sure to give you sufficient time to make that work up.
**Since
homework is a continuation of what we do in class, I will generally NOT give
out homework assignments ahead of time to take with you on vacation. Make
sure you pick them up when you get back.
**When
you turn the work back into Mrs. Meyers, be sure to write “ABSENT” at the top
of it so it will not be counted as late.

What about homework?
**Homework in 5th grade will be assigned Monday through Thursday.
We do not usually assign homework on the weekends, although you may
occasionally choose to work on a long-term project during the weekend.
**You
should set aside 30-60 minutes nightly for homework, plus daily reading
time.
**You
should NEVER say, “I don’t have any homework.” The following should be done
each week in addition to specific class work:
o
Practice spelling words
o
Review
math facts
o
Read
for 20 minutes or more each night
o
Work on
long-term projects
o
Study
for an upcoming test – don’t wait until the night before!
**Remember to call a friend or check the website for
questions about nightly homework:
http://www.lwsd.org/wilder/meyers/
What about classroom jobs?
**Classroom
jobs will rotate on the job chart each week. At the end of the day it is
your responsibility to your job FIRST and then to make sure your area is
cleaned and you are packed to go home.
**Make
sure your desk top is clear of materials and there is nothing on the floor
around you.

What happens
when I don’t follow the rules?
**My expectation
is that you will do your best work and behave in an appropriate and
respectful manner at all times. However, I understand that sometimes
mistakes are made, and the choices that are made may not be the right ones.
**If I
feel it is necessary, I will discuss the situation with you and have you
complete a Behavior Reflection Form, which is signed by both you and your
parent. The purpose of this is to have you reflect on what you did, propose
appropriate consequences, and consider other choices you could have made.
**Actions
of a more serious nature (unsafe behaviors, destruction of property,
bullying, etc.) may warrant a Wilder Consequence Form (“C-Slip”). C-Slips
can be given by teachers, specialists, aides, and the principal.
**
If you
are ever unsure about a rule or procedure, please make sure and ask me. If
you think about your actions before doing them, you’ll make good choices!

How can I get a hold of Mrs.
Meyers
when school is not in session?
**You can
see me before or after school with a question or for some help – I’m usually
in the classroom at those times. You can also call the office (425.269.1909)
and they can get a hold of me for you.
**You may also email me at

School-Wide
Procedures at Wilder
The
following are a compilation of guidelines that all students at Wilder
are
expected to know and follow. Thank you...
**Arrive
at school between 8:45 and 8:55. Be on time! Make sure to check in at
the office first if you arrive late.
**Keep
your hat in the coat closet…you may wear it at recess only.
**Take
all belongings from the coat closets each day. Check the lost and found for
any lost items.
**Stop
playing immediately when the recess bell rings and line up outside
your classroom door>
**
Stay
behind the person in front of you when walking in the halls with the class.
Keep up to avoid large gaps and walk with your lips “zipped” and your hands
to yourself – this is to respect other students working in the hallways and
in their classrooms.
**The
telephone is for emergency use only. You may not use the phone to
call home to tell a parent you want to do something – make sure you make
arrangements before school.
**If you
hear the intercom, stop and listen.
**Be sure
Ms. Shuck knows if you have gone to the office because of illness.
**Leave
gum at home.
**Stay
outside during recess unless you have been given a pass.
**Be in
the classroom only when your teacher is present.
**Be sure
you put your name on school and clothing items and on your lunch bag.
**Always
have a pass when walking in the hallways.
**Practice kindness and respect...and you’ll receive it in return!
