Every year the PTA hosts “Staff Appreciation Week” honoring all of our Thoreau staff for their hard work and daily commitment to our students. The goal of this event is to make sure they feel warm and appreciated. The event is coordinated by a committee but is dependent on Thoreau students and parents to make it all happen! Staff Appreciation is usually held in April.
Email the coordinator, Regan Kimes here.
Each day of the week a special treat or event is planned. For example:
Monday – A surprise gift for each staff member
Tuesday – Staff Appreciation Breakfast
Wednesday – Special surprise!
Thursday – Box lunches
Friday – Delicious desserts served all day
The Pond of Wishes is located in the school lobby during Staff Appreciation Week. Staff members are asked to write their “wishes” on a frog and place it in the pond. Thoreau families help to make these wishes come true by selecting wishes (small items like post-its or crayons) and purchasing them for the staff.
The Box Lunch Day is a great Thoreau tradition! Box Lunches are simply a decorated bag or shoebox filled with yummy lunch items. Kids enjoy putting these together and the staff really looks forward to eating their special lunch.
A card or note, flowers from your yard or a small treat are just some of the things kids can do to show their appreciation throughout the week. Be creative and have fun!
