We have two fun opportunities for intermediate students to participate in elective reading programs that promote reading quality literature. They are the King County Library System’s Global Reading Challenge and the Lake Washington School District’s Battle of the Books. These are both voluntary FUN activities and they generate a lot of excitement!

Each year we also host one or more book fairs, providing students the opportunity to purchase books and support our school.  These usually happen during the Fall and Spring.

Book Fairs

Scholastic Book Fairs: We plan on having a Fall and a Spring Book Fair this school year! The Fall Fair will be Thur. 11/16 from 3:45 - 8pm, Fri. 11/17, Mon. 11/20, and Tue. 11/21, from 12:15 - 7pm. The Spring Fair is expected to be Thur. 3/8, 3:45 - 7pm, Fri. 3/8, 3:45 - 8:30pm(during Family Bingo Night!), and Mon. 2/12 3:45 - 7pm.

Global Reading Challenge

The Global Reading Challenge is open to 4th and 5th grade students.  The students who choose to participate read 10 books selected by King County Librarians. There can be 7 students to each team. They read for fun, information and to gain exposure to a variety of authors and subjects in order to challenge other teams in a quiz bowl format. The winning team goes on to the District and perhaps the Grand Challenge. The school challenge usually takes place the end of January or early in February.
