PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVE

Self – Motivation

Here are some thoughts around the topic of being self motivated. I hope they help to facilitate a dinner conversation some time in the next week.

Being Self Motivated Means:

§         Finding discipline within yourself, not just   outside of   yourself

§         Holding yourself accountable for meeting commitments

§         Setting goals and working toward them regularly

§         Getting rid of habits that don’t help you

You Can Show Motivation By:

§         Having clear goals each week that you are working towards

§         Taking small steps towards long term goals

§         Turning in homework and doing chores on time

Self Motivation Quiz

Have I set clear goals for myself?

Do I finish things I start without reminders?

Do I face problems head on rather than quitting?

Do I try to solve problems myself before asking for help?

Do I learn from my mistakes?

“Success depends in a very large measure upon individual initiative and exertion, and cannot be achieved except by a dint of hard work.” Anna Pavlova

Good Neighbor Reminder

Please utilize the school parking lot for student pick up and drop off. Apple Tree Lane is not a place to do this. Also, please do not use the service drive entrance for student drop off and pick up. Please remember, “Safety Before Convenience”.

GLOBAL READING CHALLENGE

The Bookslayers are advancing to Round Two where they will challenge teams from other Lake Washington schools. This challenge is set for today, Friday, March 4, at 1pm, at the Redmond Regional Library. Congratulations! Please join us in offering encouragement to the Bookslayers as they represent us this month! Way to Go!  ☺☺☺☺☺

DISTRICT OPEN ENROLLMENT

S.H.A.R.E. WORKSHOPS

Sexuality Health and Relationships Education (S.H.A.R.E.) parent and student workshops for 5th and 6th grades are scheduled 7:00pm-8:00pm, at the following locations within our district:

March 31, 2005   Sandburg Gym

April 21, 2005     Mann Commons

May 12, 2005      Twain Library

June 9, 2005        Smith Library

This is a fun, educational, and interactive meeting that encourages students to form healthy relationships at an early age, and to avoid early dating relationships that lead to premature sexual activity. The focus is on parent education, providing parents with communication tools to work with their own child about this sometimes difficult to talk about subject. You and your student are welcome to attend any of these meetings sponsored by LWSD and S.H.A.R.E. Please contact your school for more information.

LUNCH ACCOUNTS

Please keep a positive balance in your child’s lunch account. It really helps our students and our lunch staff. If it is convenient to put money in your child’s account using your bank card, please call our district food service, 425 702-3393, and they can do this for you. Thank you!

LOST AND FOUND ITEMS

There are piles of lost and found coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, a shoe, etc. in Thoreau’s Lost and Found area located across from the elevator on the first floor. Tonight the Lost and Found items will be moved into the Commons during Bingo. Please take a few minutes to look through all the items and see if any may belong to your child. All unclaimed items will be donated to a charity on March 31.
