Schedule Notes:
§ Mid-Winter Break will be the week of February 21 – 25. § Early Dismissal (12:10) – Friday, March 4 for teachers’ Professional Development. § March 18: No school for report card preparation. § March 30 & 31: Optional conferences. I will contact parents if I feel there is a need to conference. In addition, please don’t hesitate to let me know if you would like to schedule a conference (whether I contact you or not). |
 
Curriculum Notes: § In Math Investigations this week, we have been working on organizing sets of objects so that they are easy to count and combine. We’ve worked with groups of 2s, 4s, and 5s. We have also started becoming familiar with coins and equivalences among them. § This week we finished the Science unit on Solids and Liquids by running two experiments and making observations and predictions. The first experiment involved mixing water with a variety of liquids (oil, corn syrup, hand soap, liquid detergent, fabric softener). The final experiment was to determine if toothpaste is a solid or a liquid by mixing it with water and comparing the results with our previous experiments. The science notebooks will be coming home after the break. § This week in Systematic Phonics, we continued working with ŏ, ō, and began working with ē (as in “he”). Important sounds of the week were: th, ch, and -ck. This week’s secret words were: pockets, parents, things, and children. §
