About Ms. Hughes

Hi!  My name is Peggy Hughes.  While I come from a family full of teachers (on both sides), I took the indirect route to teaching.  I grew up in Vermont and New Hampshire.  My Bachelor’s Degree is in Advertising from the University of Texas (hook ‘em horns!), and I worked in ad agencies in San Antonio, Texas as an art director for a number of years.  I’ve also worked as a freelance writer.  After many years at home raising my son, Michael (now in 8th grade!), I finally followed my family’s legacy and became a teacher.  In addition to a Masters in Teaching (K-8), I have an Art Endorsement for K-12.

I love to travel, especially with my son … next summer we’re planning to go to the Grand Canyon.  We both enjoy skiing, hiking, and riding tourist trains (Michael got me started on that one!).  I also love animals ... right now I have two very silly cats.

This is my fourth year teaching first grade, and I truly love this grade level the most!  It is very exciting to watch “the light go on” as they each become readers.  Students at this age are so enthusiastic to learn and are very proud of their accomplishments.  Ask a first grader, and you’ll see!!

The best way to contact me is via email.  My email address is:  mhughes@lwsd.org
