Focus:      Students develop in an environment of artistry, rigor and    

                    warmth.  Students learn to think and act using multiple    

                    approaches and perspectives.  Students are known and

                    nurtured as important individuals who have an active

                    concern for their community and society.

  

Enrollment:  2006-07, 7th   grade (two classes)

                        2007-08, 7th and 8th grades

                        2008-09 7 7th, 8th and 9th grades

 

Transportation:  Families must provide transportation for students.

 

Math Sequence:  Students will enroll in Connected Math 7 (7th grade), Connected

                                  Math 8 (8th grade), and Geometry (9th grade)

 

Honors:   An honors program is not available for Renaissance students.  The

                   curriculum reflects rigor and academic challenge for all students.

 

Arts: Arts instruction is not intended to train students for eventual performance.  Students will develop skill with a variety of media for artistic expression of their ideas, reflection and learning.

 

World Language:   Students will begin the study of a world language in their 9th grade

                                    year.

 

Music/Sports:   Students may participate in after school sports and music programs

                              (such as Jazz band) in their attendance area schools.  Transportation

                              to those schools from Renaissance School must be provided by

                              families.

 

Commitment:   Enrolling in Renaissance School represents a three year commitment   

                            (if beginning in 7th grade).  The curriculum is integrated and designed

                            to span all three grade levels.  Families contribute $200.00 per child

                            per year in lieu of other fundraisers.  Extra projects and excursions

                            depend upon outside grants, family contributions and nominal student

                            fees. Parents are asked to contribute 25 hours of their time per year.
