Procedures

Absent or Late Students
In accordance with Washington Law (RCW 28A.58.760), a written excuse or safe arrival phone call from parent or guardian will be required for all absences, late arrivals to school, or early dismissal. Please call the safe arrival line before 9:00 a.m. if your child will be absent or arriving late. Our Safe Arrival phone number is 425-822-9580. State the student's name, teacher's name, date and reason for absence.

Please call the school's Safe Arrival Recorder evenings, all day on holidays and weekends, and weekdays between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. if our child is to be absent. This lets us know your child is safe at home and the reason for their absence.

Early Dismissal
Learning takes place until 3:00 p.m. Early dismissals are discouraged. If there are necessary medical appointments and other emergencies, please come to the school office. Your child will be called from class to be signed out. If someone other than you will be checking your child out from school, the parent must sign an authorization. Whenever possible, send a note to your child's teacher stating the dismissal time so preparations can be made.

Communication
Communication is an essential part of the partnership between home and school. The following methods keep our parents informed about our school and classroom activities, curriculum and special events. The Principal's Newsletter is a four-page bulletin sent home at the beginning of each month and a one-page Nuts and Bolts newsletter is sent home in the middle of the month. Both provide details of upcoming events and programs. The goal is to provide an update of school events in a brief format.

Paw Prints is a lengthier, more comprehensive monthly PTSA newsletter with articles and information relevant to PTSA members and parents.

Curriculum Night gives parents an opportunity to meet teachers and visit their children's classrooms. Teachers provide curriculum outlines and expectations for the school year.

Conference Weeks provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to meet and discuss a child's progress in school. Conferences are scheduled during two designated weeks in November and March, for approximately twenty minutes.

Other forms of communication between teachers and parents may include class newsletters, notes and phone calls.
