5 September 2006

Dear Rose Hill Community Members,

We have a new school! All of our planning over the past three years is now a reality. There was much accomplished during the month of August as we neared the opening of the school year and the return of our students. We successfully worked around all of the usual barriers that construction projects face. We will continue to complete and perfect the details. We know that similar to moving into a new school, we will take some time to get accustomed to living in our new school. There may be little bumps along the path way when we practice flexibility and patience as we figure things out. All of us are excited and proud to share our new campus with everyone. Mark your calendars with our Opening Celebration on Thursday, October 5, 2006!

There are a few district policies which I would like to introduce to you. For the past few years, there have been articles in the newspapers and magazines about the health of our youth in the nation. LWSD has adopted a new Nutrition and Physical Fitness Policy which provides healthy guidelines for our children and will change some of our former practices. It is explained in more detail following my letter.

Rose Hill is blessed with a large volunteer group from our family and community network. They serve as Lunch Buddy Mentors, tutors, and interpreters. In order to provide greater security and safety for our children, there are some new district procedures which will be in effect this fall. Please also be sure to read more about the new LWSD Volunteer process that is also further explained at the end. You will find a letter that specifically addresses volunteers and a Volunteer Application form in this First Day Packet. Our office will be glad to make a photocopy of your identification that must be attached to your application.

We look forward to all of our students and their families joining us on our new learning adventure. The greater the involvement of parents/guardians and families at school, the more beneficial it is for our children. We always welcome you as partners in education!

Sincerely yours,

Principal
