2008 Kingco Champion Redmond Mustangs.

The Kingco 4A champion Mustangs traveled to Spokane to participate in the 4A state tournament with the mindset of winning two games; unfortunately, they were only able to realize half their goal.

In 90 degree heat, Redmond met the University Titans head-on, and walked away with a 15-0 win.  Facing a pitcher that had yielded only two earned runs in over 40 innings pitched on the season, the Mustang attack yielded three runs in the first inning and two more in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead and chase the University ace.  Key in the attack was Zach Doleac’s two bunts, both for base hits – one was intended to be a squeeze – which put great pressure on the Titan defense.  All in all, there were many offensive stars in the game:  Tim Wilson, 4-4 with a HR; Marcus Flynn, 3-4 with 3 RBI; Landon Morris, 3-4 with a HR and 4 RBI; and Trase Pickering, 4-4 with three doubles and three RBI.  Not to be lost in the offensive onslaught was the pitching of Matt Burrows who threw a complete game shutout, scattering seven hits and walking only one.

The second game against defending state champion Richland was a different story.  Though held to seven hits, Richland made the most of them as their first five hits were made up of three doubles and two homeruns.  Out of their 14 baserunners, 11 scored leading them to an 11-5 win.  The Mustangs rallied in the 7th inning for all five of their runs, but it was too little too late.

In all, the Mustangs finished 20-4 and in the top 8 in the state.  Congratulations on a fantastic season.
