To
Kill A Mocking Bird
By: Harper Lee
To Kill A Mockingbird takes place in the 1930's in
the small town of Maycomb, Alabama town during The Great Depression. Scout, the main character, narrates the
story. Scout and her brother, Jem, live just three houses away from Boo
Radley, a man that never comes out of his house. Rumor has it that he
stabbed his father with a pair scissors. All the kids are scared of him,
but Scout, Jem, and their friend
Dill (who comes to visit his aunt every summer in Maycomb) are
determined to find out more about the mysterious Mr. Radley.
While they do
that, Scout's father, Atticus, works on defending Tom Robinson, a black
man accused of raping a young woman named Mayella Ewell. Since Tom
Robinson is an African American he doesn't have that great of chance of winning the
case. Even though Atticus is pretty sure he will lose, he still tries his
best at defending Tom.
