Hi! Welcome to my web site about Family Life as a Slave. Here is some information about that. You would find many interesting facts about slave families.

Slave families were often torn apart to be sold or auctioned away. Slave traders could separate mother from child and husband from wife. Children could be sold at a very early age.

Once a girl slave became a woman, they were forced to have children. Around the age of 20 or 21 either before a marriage of afterwards the slave woman would bear the 1st of 6 or 7 children. Women just had  children to make more slaves for the master.

When slave children were young they did not know they were slaves and they played among the other children. Soon some children, at the age of five, had to run errands and carry water to the slaves working in the fields. Most, around the age of seven or eight, were expected to do work on plantations.

To the children there was no real satisfactory father-image than the master. The mother was more important to the child than the father. The mother was the one who really took care of the children.

As you look around my web site you would find more information on slave life. You would also find many primary sources you could look at. I have also provided many links you can go to for additional information.
