This document that you are about to read is about the boat trip that slaves would have to endure on their way over from Africa to the United States. During the time when slaves were legal to own black people were very desperate because they did not want to become a slave. Sometimes they became so desperate that when slave traders would come over that a black person would trade another black person so that they would not have to become a slave. Most black people will think that it was the white people who is responsible for the capturing of black people but it is actually the opposite. Since there were so many traitors that most of the slaves were given to the traders by other blacks instead of the white people capturing the blacks on themselves.

On the ship the slaves were cramped together so that they were practically over lapping each other. Some say that sardines that are placed in those small packages have it better than the slaves did while aboard the ship. Most of the time slaves would have to lay in each others urine, feces, and other gross stuff like that.  But some slaves were lucky enough to be able to urinate off the side of the ship. Since the slaves had to lay in this stuff they died of disease, exhaustion, harsh beatings by the slave owners that rode the ship, dehydration, and starvation. Some of the slaves would have to ride with a dead slave clung to them after they died. Other slaves were fortunate enough to have the slave that they were riding with thrown overboard. But for the slaves that lived they had to endure the harsh treatment and unstoppable torturing of the slave owners. Here is a chart to show the ships, the number of sailors aboard the ship, the sailors that died,  the number of slaves on the ship, and how many slaves died aboard the ship.
