Rules of Volleyball:

The Game:

1. There are 6 players on the court for official V.B. Teams.

2. A team can only score while it is serving.

3. A Side out is called when the serving team fails to score.

4. A team is allowed 3 hits per side:

5. Games are to 15 points. The winning team must win by 3 pts.

6. A match consists of the best 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5 games.

7. It is legal to play the ball out of the net except on a serve.

8. It is illegal to touch the new while the ball is in play.

9. A ball is considered in bounds if it lands on a line.

10. Rotation is performed in a clockwise circle.

11. Players must be in proper service after at the of the serve.

12. Official V.B. rules allow a player to contact the ball with any part of the body.

13. It is illegal to set a serve.

14. It is illegal to attack a serve while playing in the front line.

15. It is illegal to block a serve, with no forward motion allowed.

16. A team may play the ball off the ceiling on their side only.

The Serve:

1. A serve may be contacted by any part of the hand or arm.

2. The server must serve from behind the end line.

3. During the serve the ball may not touch the net.

4. During the serve the ball may not be helped over the net.

5. The foot may not be in contact with the end line at the time of ball contact.

6. At catch of a bad toss results in an illegal serve violation

7. The server has 5 seconds to serve the ball.

8. The server will serve until a side-out is called.

9. The server must call the score before each serve.

Violations: 

A violation on the serving team results in a side-out.

A violation on the receiving team results in a point for the serving team.

1. Carry- holding or lifting the ball.

2. Delay of game- taking more than 5 seconds to serve.

3. Double Hit- contacting the ball twice on a single attempt.

4. Foot Fault- stepping on or over the end line on a serve.

5. Centerline violation- stepping over the centerline while the ball is in play.

6. Net- touching the net while the ball is in play.

7. 4 hits- a team may contact the ball only 3 times. (A block does not count as a hit)

8. Illegal serve- catching a bad toss.

9. Reaching over the net- a player may not reach over the net and block an intended set. You may reach over the block to spike.

10. Held Ball- A ball that is held at the top of the newt by two opposing players.

11. Back row spiker- a back row player can not cross the 3m/ attack line and play the ball above the net. A player may ump from clearly behind the attack line and spike the ball over the net
