The Trojan war was started by Helen (Menelaus' wife) leaving Menelaus for Paris. When Menelaus found out that Helen had run off with Paris he got mad and asked all of her old suitors to help him get her back. When the ships got to the city Troy the men got out and began building small shelters, thinking they were only going to be there awhile but in the end they would be there for ten years.
