Hello! My name is Gail Barringer Young. I grew up on the east side of the mountains in Yakima, Washington. I attended the University of Washington and received my BA and Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

My first teaching job was in Silverdale, WA, in the Central Kitsap School District where I taught 4^th and 5^th grade for several years. I moved to the Kirkland area, where I met my husband and was hired in the Lake Washington School District at Redmond Elementary where I continued to teach the intermediate grades.

Following the birth of my second child, I decided to make a career change choosing to be a reading specialist, which is the job I presently hold. I have the privilege of watching children learn to read and write. I work with a fabulous staff, teaming and collaborating to help kids achieve their fullest potential.

In addition to my passion, which is playing my grand piano, I enjoy gourmet cooking, reading, hiking, watching my husband coach, and cheering our two boys and our daughter in their various sports activities.
