Janice Heid, Principal

Personal Information

I was born in Akron, Ohio.  My parents moved to Kirkland when I was 11 years old.  I graduated from Lake Washington High School.  I have one older sister, and two younger brothers.  My parents owned a plant nursery on 132nd Street in Kirkland when I was growing up and that is where I developed my green thumb. I began teaching in 1970 in Gilroy, California.  I moved the following year to Salt Lake City and taught there for 10 years.  I began teaching in LWSD in 1982 and taught in the Full Time Quest program before working in Staff Development. I became the assistant principal at Redmond Elementary in 1990.  I became the principal at Benjamin Rush Elementary in 1991 and was there for 9 years.  I then went to Lakeview Elementary for five years before coming to Redmond this year...

Credentials/ Experience

I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree from Brigham Young University in 1970.  I earned my Masters Degree from Seattle University in 1985.  A couple of years later I earned my Washington State Principal’s Credential.  I taught a total of 16 years before becoming a principal.   

Interests/ Hobbies

I love to read and write.  I love plants and flowers and enjoy gardening.  I also enjoy doing genealogy and learning about my ancestors.  I enjoy doing stitchery and embroidery.  I love to travel and have visited or lived in all 50 states. I usually visit my mother in Missouri every summer.  We play canasta in the evenings and often go fishing on Lake Stockton.  I have lived in Japan for 2 years and have visited Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, England, Austria, France and Spain.

I think my job is one of the most important jobs in the world.  I love children and love to be involved in their education.
