Library Expectations
The mission of the John Muir Elementary School Library Media Program is to ensure "that students are effective users of ideas and information" (ALA  1998).  The curriculum of the library classroom includes the teaching of information literacy and technology skills and the promotion of reading.

Academics

The library is a place to find information, ideas, and inspiration. It is also a classroom. Each class meets weekly for one-half hour. The LWSD Curriculum is taught and student academic progress is reported in the LWSD Report Card.

The Library grade is based on:

Using the information resources in the library.

Active participation during class.

bullet

Checking out books.

bullet

Reading

bullet

Responsibility for taking care of materials and returning books on time.

Written assignments or performance of library skills during class time.

Check-Out Policy

Students are encouraged to check out books from their school library.

Kindergarten: 1 book per week

bullet

1st and 2nd grade: 2 books per week

bullet

3rd-6th: 3 books for 2 weeks (exceptions made for classroom assignments)
