What is Success Lab?
Success Lab is a mini classroom that accommodates small groups of students that receive additional academic support. It is in addition to a child’s regular classroom. Students will usually attend Success Lab 4 days a week for 30-45 minutes. Services are provided for students that meet the criteria for the Lake Washington School Districts Safety Net services. At this time the Success Lab services focus on reading.
How students qualify:
In kindergarten, first and second grade, classroom teachers administer DIBELS testing in September, again in January and in May. Based on test scores and the teacher’s daily observation of student’s performance a student is referred to the Safety Net Program. Further testing is completed and if the student qualifies they are placed in the program for additional support.
Fourth, fifth and sixth grade students WASL scores are considered. Based on test scores, teacher's observation of student's classroom performance a student is referred to the Safety Net Program. Further testing is completed and if the student qualifies they are placed in the program for additional support.
Students can be dismissed from the program when they meet the minimum grade level standards.
Parents and teachers are asked to sign a learning plan when the student enters the Safety Net program.
The purpose of the Learning Plan are to "help assure continued progress in academic achievement as a foundation for high school graduation and to assure that students are on track for high school graduation." Progress made on the student plan is to be reported to the student's parents or guardian at report card time. Adjustments to the plan can be made quarterly or as needed.
