October 2005
Dear Kindergarten
Parents,
This year we are trying something new
with our Kindergarten students. We are beginning book check out
several weeks earlier than in the past. We are very excited about this
opportunity to let our students develop responsibility by checking out
and returning books.
Here
are some issues that we have been discussing while leading up to this
big event. Please review them with your child at home.
Although books are checked out for a two week period, we strongly
encourage weekly returns. This develops a routine and allows the
student to choose something new each week. (1 book per week)
Book care is a very important piece to
this process. We discussed carrying books in their backpacks, keeping
it in a safe place at home, keeping it away from younger brothers and
sisters, crayons, scissors and pets.
We have also discussed that while
checking out a book is an important responsibility, we should not
become worried or upset over a lost or misplaced book. Children will
not be allowed to check out another book until the book they have is
returned or we hear from a parent letting us know that they are aware
that the book is missing. An overdue notice will be generated after
the two week period, students will continue to get a notice each week
until the book is returned or paid for (if it should come to that.)
If a book gets to the point of a bill, it is expected that the bill
will be paid. If the book is found after the bill has been paid,
return the book and the money will be refunded.
I look forward to helping your child
grow through this responsibility and will strive to make it a positive
experience.
