| We in the Christa
McAuliffe school community place the individual learner at the center of our day-to-day
decision making. All our decisions and all our actions are based on answering the
question, "HOW CAN WE BEST MEET THE NEEDS OF THIS CHILD?" We recognize that each
learner is unique and that our answers may not be the same for each child. We are committed to educating the WHOLE child--not just the intellectual, but the physical, emotional, and social as well. We recognize that self-esteem serves as the foundation for all further growth and we dedicate ourselves to fostering that self-esteem in each individual. We know that education does not end with the completion of formal schooling and commit ourselves to enabling each individual to become a self-directed and lifelong learner. We will direct all resources of our school toward meeting this goal. We believe that self-directed and lifelong learners need many skills which include the ability to think critically and creatively, o work and learn cooperatively, and to use the tools of all forms of literacy, including verbal, mathematics, and artistic. Furthermore, we want our children to greet the future with enthusiasm, vigor, and curiosity as well as capability. We want them to be contributing, caring, and responsible world citizens who respect themselves and others. We believe that educators, parents, students, and our new City - Sammamish must work in partnership to create an educational community where learning is highly valued and each individual achieves and thrives. Such a partnership will enable us to meet the challenge of educating each individual, so s/he may in turn contribute to a society dealing with the challenges of the future
