"Strong We Will Never Fall"

10th Absence Letter/Loss Of Credit

In accordance with the Lake Washington High School attendance policy, students exceeding nine (9) non-school related absences in a course during a semester WILL NOT receive credit for that class.  As of the date listed on the attendance history (enclosed), our records indicate that your son or daughter has accumulated ten (10) or more non-school related absences in one or more classes and has lost credit in that/those classes.  Absences listed as school related DO NOT count towards the nine (9) absence limit.  Absences listed as EXCUSED or UNEXCUSED are non-school related and DO count towards the nine (9) absence limit.  A reminder that four (4) tardies DO equal one (1) absence.

Students have appeal options for loss of credit.  Loss of credit can be appealed through the attendance office in one of three ways:  pre-appeal, request for reinstatement, or the Attendance Review Committee.  Please refer to the attendance policy located in the Student Handbook and/or Parent Handbook for specific information on appeal procedures.  Failure to follow these procedures means that the student has waived appeal rights and the loss of credit will stand.

If you wish to appeal loss of credit through the Attendance Review Committee, you must:

  1. Have the teacher update the attendance office if discrepancies exist.
  2. Within three (3) school days you must go to the Attendance Office to sign up for an Appeal Date.
  3. Continue to attend the class (es) regularly.
