Creating Positive Study Habits
· Study time is expected to average approximately 60 minutes per night.
· Students should set up a consistent organized place to complete homework.
· It is helpful for students to establish either a consistent schedule for completing homework or to create a schedule each Sunday night that reflects that particular week’s activities.
· Assignments are to be turned in on time with a complete heading at the beginning of each class period. (Reading/Language Arts, Math, etc.)
· If there is not 60 minutes of homework assigned for a particular evening, the choices menu is provided for students to support regular study habits. There is always something to work on, improve or prepare. (See reverse side of this sheet).
Parent Involvements
· Encourage, motivate, and prompt your child, but do not sit with him/her to do his/her homework. The purpose of the homework is for your child to practice and use what she has learned. If your child is consistently not able to do the homework by him/herself, please contact me or make a note on the homework sheet.
· If your child is practicing a skill or working on a project, ask him/her to tell you which steps/parts are easy for him/her, which are difficult, what knowledge he/she is gaining, or how he/she is going to improve.
· When bedtime comes, please stop your child, even if he/she is not finished. If possible, allow some time to complete this homework in the morning.
Grading
· Daily assigned work provides practice on concepts and skills taught in class. This practice is most beneficial when homework is completed on time. If a student turns in a daily homework assignment late, it my not be corrected.
· Late work will affect the life skill grade on the report card: completes work on time.
· Grading Scale:
4 Exceeds Grade Level Standards
3 Meets Grade Level Standards
2 Approaching Grade Level Standards
1 Not at Grade Level Standard
Extensions and Absences
· If students or parents foresee difficulty in completing an assignment or project by the due date, please notify me prior to the due date, and we will discuss the possibility of an extension.
· If an emergency arises, and the given homework cannot be completed, please bring a note from a parent/guardian stating the nature of the emergency. We will establish an alternative due date.
· Students should coordinate homework requirements and due dates prior to planned absences.
· In the event of an unplanned absence, homework can be collected when the student returns. It is the responsibility of the student to coordinate make-up work when absent with a classmate and/or the teacher. The number of days absent indicates the number of days allowed for make-up work.
