HERITAGE UNIT REQUIREMENTS

THE PACKET IS A ROUGH DRAFT ONLY.  ALL WORK IS TO BE TYPED,   1 1/2-SPACED.  PAPER WILL BE PROVIDED FOR ILLUSTRATIONS.

(5) Loose Map

          *Label your country, continents, and oceans.  Color neatly with colored pencils.

(10) Family Tree

          Make a family tree with you and your brothers/sisters at the bottom. Put parents, grandparents, great-grandparents on it.

              * name all people with first and last names

              * identify where your family on both sides comes from-

                 the heritage of your family

              * label the people (grandparents, parents,…)

          Be as complete as you can.

(30) Heritage Research Packet

          You must complete a 6-8 paragraph report from the information identified in the research packet.

·        Must have an introductory and concluding paragraph

·        Body paragraphs should relate to the bold underlined categories in this packet

·        Every paragraph must have a topic sentence and detailed supporting sentences

·        Report should be 1.5 spaced, 12 pt. font, Times New Roman.

·        Include a coversheet with requirements as listed in this packet

(20) Map Of Country

Show surrounding countries, water, label them and your country. Title the map.  Your country needs to be very detailed with major landforms/bodies of water/points of interest/capital city.  Neatness counts. A map done in a larger format may earn extra credit.  Direction finder needed, Key labeled with symbols, No pencil marks.

(10) Flag

            Must do on paper, cut and paste or sewn-for extra credit.  Draw and color the official flag of your country.  Get detailed.  NO pencil marks, neatness counts.

(10) Dress

             On paper draw the traditional dress of a man or woman from your country. Explain these in detail on a typed piece of paper which is either pasted to your drawing or on its own page of type.  Explain the significance, history, and/or cultural implications of the costume worn.  For extra credit draw both and have 2 typed explanations as above.

(10) Recipe

              Find a recipe for a traditional food that you will make for the Heritage Festival (70+ people). Final copy is to be typed, with your name on it, in an easy to read format-see format page. Title it!  Turn in a separate copy also for the recipe book (so 2 copies total).

(5) Bibliography

              Use at least 3 different resources to research your paper.  Follow the format required in the packet.  Type your bibliography, title it, put it on a separate piece of paper.

The packet is not turned in, only the final, typed papers and items above are.

Extra Credit will be given anywhere in this project for "extras" included. As always, neatness counts in all areas.  Spelling, punctuation, grammar and details are necessary to get full credit in areas.
