
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS AND GLOBAL READING CHALLENGE
The Global Reading Challenge is for 4th and 5th graders and is sponsored by the King County Library System. Each of our 3 teams was made up of 7 students who read 10 books. The Reading Leopards consisted of Eli S., Kaiti B., Abril B., Anastasia E., Annie C., Jonathan L., and Preston S. The Racing Readers members were Matthew H., Briana M., Max I., Maegan G., Kyle K., Trina D., and McKenzie S. The Reading Rockets members are Charisse O., Clare K., Nathan H., Sofia A., Ariana G., Daniel D., and Brandon H. The Reading Rockets won our school challenge and will go on to the District challenge in March. For rules and a booklist, follow the hyperlink here.
The Battle of the Books is for 6th graders and is organized by the teacher librarians in the LWSD. Its purpose is to promote the reading of quality literature. Eight students signed up to participate making two teams. Team A members were Taylor H., Elean H., Cori M., and Hailey P. Team B will represent our school in the District battles. The members of this team are Nate A., Gabe G., Holt M. and Emily C. They did a wonderful job making it to the semi-finals where they lost to Thoreau Elementary. The District battle was won by Franklin Elementary.
