ACCELERATED READER
The Accelerated Reader program is used in 2nd-6th grades at Lakeview. It is used in addition to the other reading programs at our school. Students choose an AR book, read it and then take an online quiz about the book within a 48 hour period. The student and teacher receive immediate feedback about how the student scored via a printout of the quiz results.
Because of the generosity of our PTSA, we have 5,774 quizzes and we continue to purchase quizzes on a quarterly basis. Quiz lists can be found on our school web site and Destiny, our online library system.
We have approximately 3,300 books in our library that have quizzes. We mark each book with a colored dot on the spine that corresponds to a reading level. The ZPD or reading level for each student is the reading level range recommended by the School Renaissance Institute for the optimal growth in reading without frustration. The ranges are approximate. Success at any level depends on the student's interest, prior knowledge and other factors.
