EVENTS (classroom happenings)

Oktoberfest=October 18th in the gym from 6:30-7:15. Come enjoy delicious German foods and enjoy the company of fellow Panda Pad parents. It's a fun hour of eating and visiting.
INVENTION CONVENTION-Feb. 7th in the gym from 6:30-7:30. Parents and family welcome to check out the creative and inspiring inventions!
Conferences-I will meet with each of you in November. The scheduled conference dates are November 16th, 19th, and 20th. I will do my best to accommodate one of your day/time choices. Conference in March are once again OPTIONAL. This means I will be contacting you if I feel there is a need to meet and discuss your child's progress.
Gingerbread Houses-My class will have fun making their own gingerbread house AND have fun helping their little buddy create an edible house. This will take place December 14th from 1:30-3:15 in the gym commons.
WASL-your child will be taking the science, reading, and math WASL this year. The WASL will take place in mid-April to May. Please do not schedule any appointments or extended vacations during that period of time.
Sex ed/AIds instruction-This instruction will take place the week of May 12-16th. You will receive a letter regarding this instruction about a month before. You must view the video(s) before being given the option to exempt your child. Video previewing is available for any interested parent the week of May 8th.
Wax Museum-make sure you have your cameras and video cam for this event! The kids will be dressed up and in rare form as their chosen person in history. This historic event takes place on Friday, June 6th in the gym. You are welcome to come to the gym anytime between 1:00-3:15. Parents and family are invited to attend.
Book Buddies-this is a fun way to end our school year together. The kids secretly choose a "book buddy." They purchase a paperback book for their buddy and wrap it all up. On the last day of school, each student has a new book to start reading for the summer! Info. to come your way in June.
READ ACROSS THE USA

Has your child traveled to Maine yet? That is the first state on your child's trek across the United States. Remember, each child MUST complete Zone 1 by the end of the year.
To complete a Zone-

read one or more books from each genre until a Zone is completed | |

complete a sheet of verification for each book/picture books (sheets are available as needed in classroom) | |
|
upon completion of a Zone, fill out book conference form on book of choice | |
|
conference with teacher | |
|
receive reward and continue on to next Zone |
There are 4 zones to complete. You have read across the USA when you have reached your final destination of Washington state.
