Ultimate in Ten Simple Rules

  1. The Field -- A rectangular shape with endzones at each end. A regulation field is 70 yards by 40 yards, with endzones 25 yards deep. Defined by cones.
  2. Initiate Play -- Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective endzone line. The defense throws ("pulls") the disc to the offense. A regulation game has seven players per team.
  3. Scoring -- Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's endzone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.
  4. Movement of the Disc -- The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count.
  5. Change of possession -- When a pass in not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.
  6. Substitutions -- Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout.
  7. Non-contact -- No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made.
  8. Fouls -- When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.
  9. Self-Refereeing -- Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.
  10. Spirit of the Game -- Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

Or, in kid language...

First you set up the field. Then you find out who is playing. There should be at least 7 players on each team.

At the beginning you have to flip. One person flips who is on one team and then a person from the other team calls heads or tails. If the person who was calling got it right then their team decides if the want to receive or to return. If he\she doesn't get it right then the other team gets to pick! After they have picked who is doing what each team gets in a horizontal line and each person on each team has to guard a person on the other team (say their name out loud). The team that picked to return throws the frisbee toward the other team (usually you don't have to catch the frisbee but you can if you want to).  When the other team got the frisbee they start playing it. Passing the frisbee from person to the other your goal is to get a person to catch it in the endzone. If you score then if you are a girl you get 2 points and if you are a boy  you get 1 point. In adult tornements whethere you are a girl or boy you still get 1 point. If the frisbee is dropped it automatically goes to the other team! There are other things that can make the frisbee go to the other team.  If you walk with the frisbee it is called a "WALK" , also if you get to stalling 10 the frisbee goes to the other team. There are also fuals, but the only way you get fauled is if you hit a person or if you knock a person down. The person who calls the foul asks the other person if he/she agrees or disagrees. If that person disagrees then they will check it into  the person's hand agrees then it goes back to where it started or where the foul happened and start from there on. At the end of the game the team that has the most points wins that game!
