Great First Day!

The rain cleared out by mid-morning and we had a really nice first day. I can already tell that this is going to be a fine class. We have 19 students. They seem bright, well-behaved and as cute as can be.

Today we learned about the rules and routines of the classroom and school. We also put all of our school supplies into our desks and got them organized.

Besides going over all of the rules, we listened to the picture book Blueberries for Sal and the first chapter of My Father’s Dragon. We broke out the math materials. We drew pictures about things we like to do. We also had P.E.

We’ll spend the first week getting to know each other, and I’ll spend the second week assessing the kids in reading, writing and math.

This is my eighth year at Lakeview and my third year teaching first grade. I really love this age. The kids are full of life and enthusiasm. It’s so exciting to watch them learn. Reading, writing, math, science and much more are just around the corner.

I’ll go over the first grade curriculum at Curriculum Night on September 13th. Parents that would like to volunteer may sign up that night.
