Gyrfalcon

Introduction

The Gyrfalcon is one of the biggest falcons in the

world.  It is my favorite falcon.

 

Description

The size of the Gyrfalcon is 19-25 inches and the wing span is 48 inches. 

The gyrfalcon is white with black spots on its wings. The breast is white. The beak is curved in the front.

The male is smaller then the female.

 

Call or song

The gyrfalcon call is kak kak kak or chup chup chup.

Nesting

 

The gyrfalcon nests on rocky ledges. It does not build nests. It usually uses nests built by other birds, including Common Raven and Golden Eagle, usually on a cliff ledge.

 

 

Range

The gyrfalcon lives in Alaska and Canada in the summer. The gyrfalcon breeds along the coast in the winter.
