BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL: Supervisors are not on duty until 8:30. Students are not to arrive before 8:30. Students should wait for the bell in front of school. At 8:35 students should begin to line up and wait for the 8:40 bell at their appropriate doors: North-5th and 6th grade, Northwest-3rd and 4th grades, South-Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. The tardy bell rings at 8:45. If your child arrives at school after the 8:45 tardy bell, they must check in at the office and get a late slip before entering their classroom. Please tell your child to go straight home after school and check with you. Note that if they return to play on school grounds there is no supervision.
BICYCLES: Students in grades 4-6 may ride bicycles to school. Peter Kirk requires that each bicycle owner file an application for permission to ride their bike to school. Bicycle riders are required to obey a list of rules printed in the application 1. Students must wear a helmet. 2. Walk the bike while on school grounds. 3. Bike must be locked at the bike rack during the school day. It is our hope that you will work with your child(ren) in seeing that these rules are obeyed. We reserve the right to withdraw the student's privilege of riding their bike to school if they do not obey the rules. The school is not responsible for theft, vandalism, or any injury the child may incur in route to or from school. Because of safety and liability concerns, the district does not allow skateboards, in-line skates, roller blades and/or razor-type scooters on school grounds; therefore, students are asked to leave them at home. This includes before and after school.
EMERGENCY PREPARATIONS: At school it is important that we have the ability to contact someone close in the case of a school closure, early dismissal or snowstorm. Please make arrangements with a family or friend in the immediate Peter Kirk community where your child may go in the event you are unable to come to school. List that name and phone number on the back of the LWSD emergency notification document. Every child needs to have an alternate contact in the community that can be called by you or us in the event of your absence. Your child will be more comfortable in a home environment.
PARKING LOT PROCEDURES (Drop-off & Pick-up)
SAFETY PATROLS AND ADULT CROSSING GUARDS: We have school safety patrol members (5th and 6th grade students) on duty in the morning and at dismissal to help at school crossings with heavy traffic. Please encourage your child to cross with the safety patrol.

To ensure the safety of our students and to be in compliance with Washington State Law (RCW 43.43.830 through 43.43.845), we ask that all parent helpers and volunteers complete a Select Volunteer Application, Volunteer Disclosure form and Washington State Patrol background check form.
