Juanita
High School Drama, under the direction of Elizabeth McMurray-Hauk,
presents Oliver Goldsmith’s 18th
Century English Farce, She Stoops To
Conquer!
Mr.
Charles Marlow has a problem.
It seems this independent, self-assured
young man dissolves into a
stammering fool when a well-bred young lady is present.
In Goldsmith’s audience-pleasing comedy,
She Stoops To Conquer, Marlow
travels to the Hardcastle home to meet his intended, Kate.
Kate’s mischievous
brother, Tony Lumpkin, intercepts Marlow and his traveling
companion, George Hastings.
He tricks them into thinking that the Hardcastle
home is an Inn, with Mr. Hardcastle as the eccentric Inn Keeper.
Believing that Miss Hardcastle and her friend, Miss Constance Neville,
have stopped by the ‘Inn’ on their way home,
Marlow conducts an anxious,
fidgety, and outright hilarious first meeting with Kate.
When Kate realizes that
Marlow is more comfortable around an innkeeper’s daughter than a Lady,
‘She Stoops To Conquer’, disguises as a maid, and enchants
Marlow.
Don’t miss this 18th Century Comic
Masterpiece!
