Juanita Drama, under the direction of Elizabeth McMurray-Hauk, proudly presents, The Brick and the Rose, a profound and compelling vocal collage brought to life by eleven actors portraying forty-seven different characters. The Voice (Alison Knappett), shares the story of Tommy (Alex Twitchell) as a young boy of the slums from the moment of his birth in a charity hospital until his tragic death. In a world of poetry and pain, of childish games and grown up realities, Tommy tries to find something besides 'hardness and hitting out, and twisted people all afraid'. He meets Alice (Kyla Prell), his ‘ rose behind the hard brick city'. He believes that he will only experience the splendor he has found for an instant, and he sees himself unable to hold on to the best thing that has ever happened to him. The end is as tragic, and stunning, as Tommy’s brief and poignant life, leaving behind a message no one in the audience will soon forget.
