There are some changes that will be happening to the Basketball Band Calendar. There is no longer a Girls JV team so BLUE BAND will be most affected by this Wednesday games and call times will now be 30 minutes earlier. BOTH BANDS will have earlier call and game times on Fridays. There have also been some games that were moved from Juanita to an away location, so I am going to revamp the B-Ball Band calendar for you. Though some times and dates will change, I will try to keep the days consistent (i.e. Red has Tuesday-Fridays and Blue has Wednesday-Fridays). The dates that are no longer at Juanita are Tuesday 12/15 and Wednesday 12/16. Once I have a chance to verify dates I will give the replacements, if they fit into the calendar (I try to avoid scheduling during breaks, during finals, etc.) New hard copies will given out in class early next week and electronic copies will be sent home to parents as well. Thanks for your understanding and flexibility!
On another note, our Winter Concert is Wednesday, December 2nd. This day will arrive very quickly, so if you have not heard the melodious tones of your child practicing, please encourage them to do so as that is their daily HOMEWORK! In fact, their first Practice Goal Sheet is due tomorrow.
We are looking for photos of the band to include on the website. If you have any nice photos or plan to take some at the upcoming concert we would love to have them! You can e-mail them to me. Thanks so much!
10/30/2009 November Update
Congratualtions to all groups who had a wonderful first concert, and to the Jazz Band who had a stellar performance at the Northlake Jazz Festival on Tuesday!
T-shirt orders are DUE. If by chance you haven't purchased, I have asked ProImage Sportwear to keep the online store open through this weekend. PLEASE follow the instructions provided (students brought home a hard copy a few weeks ago) or look on the JHS Band webpage for the form. The t-shirts are REQUIRED for Basketball Band.
Basketball Band sign-ups will appear in the middle of the month. We split into two bands - the students sign-up for the band that fits their schedule the best. Games fall on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Fridays. Students must play at a minimum of 5 games, however they are welcome to play at more (we always have several kids who play at all the games!) More details to come.
The Symphonic Band will be combining with the Concert Choir to perform at the Veterans' Day Assembly at JHS on November 6th during the school day. They will need to bring their concert dress.
ALL Band students will need to bring their concert dress on Friday, November 13th for yearbook pictures.
We DO have a home game on Friday, November 6th. This was the tentative play-off game that was brought up a few weeks ago. It is no longer a play-off game, but we will be there along with the cheerleaders to help support our Rebels last home game! 6:00 call and 7:00 game start.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the extra hour of sleep that's coming up!!!
10/20/09
Fall Concert Wednesday! Symphonic Call Time: 6:00 p.m. to set-up, Concert Band 7:00 p.m. ALL students must help tear down so it goes quickly! Concert begins at 7:30 featuring Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz, Concert Band, Concert Choir, and Symphonic Band. December concert: CB 6:00 set-up, SB 7:00 call.
T-Shirt and hoodie orders are due by FRIDAY 10/23. Students received online ordering instructions in class. You can also find it on the JHS Band webpage under Forms. T-shirts are REQUIRED for all - they will be our uniform for basketball band. Hoodies are optional - the more that are purchased the cheaper the price (we are still working out how to do refunds with ProImage Sportswear.)
Home football Friday (6:00 p.m. call time) with a POSSIBLE play-off game at Juanita on Friday, 11/6. We find out about play-off games last minute because they depend on game results, so I will let you know for sure as soon as I have the information.
Fundraising opportunity: we have a chance host a basketball tournament on January 23rd and 24th. The music department would be in charge of setting up, tearing down, concessions, and cleaning for the entire weekend, beginning with set-up Friday evening on 1/22/10. If we are going to do this, we will need ALL of the help we can get, including one or two parents who are willing to be the "Go To" people who will help coordinate the event. Please let me know if you are interested! Choir and Orchestra will be involved, but Band represents the largest number of kids, so the more help we can provide the better! This tournament is still tentative, but if it solidifies we need to know if we will have the volunteers to do it, otherwise we will forfeit the opportunity to another club or sports team.
Jazz Band: Festival next Tuesday. Students received itineraries and permission forms today - permission forms are due FRIDAY 10/23.

The kids were STUPENDOUS today. I could not have asked for better performances; they were enthusiastic, responsive, patient, crazy, and attentive all at the correct times. Thank you so much for the early alarm clocks and encouragement!
If you would like to watch us, you can go to: http://www.king5.com/sports/high-school-sports/. Look at the column on the right side and you'll see three segments for the Juanita Alarm Clock Pep Rally. Interestingly enough, the main article you see at the top left is about an athelete/musician from Puyallup - how fitting to share a page with that!
