Being successful in Science does not just happen. It
is my strong belief that success in science has a lot more to do with
organization and effort than just plain intelligence. Students who learn
and use strategies for academic success such as prioritizing, managing
their time and commitments, and efficient study skills will more likely
become successful in science and other areas of their life. With
success comes motivation. The goal
of this page and the upcoming meeting is to provide both the parent and student with the
confidence that their child can be successful in science. I will provide practical information in an optimistic way. If you are not able to
attend this meeting, or if you missed it, you may follow the links below to view
the agenda which has some quick practical suggestion regarding materials,
student jobs, origination and other topics. The link to the PowerPoint
will take you to the presentation I used at the meeting. You may view this
to get general idea of what I talked about. At the meeting, I explore
these topics, and show examples of what student work should look like.
Helping your child to become successful in junior high athletics can be a
challenging experience as well. Although I am not currently coaching here
at Finn Hill, I have several years experience as a High School and Junior
High Varsity Coach. I wrote an open letter to parents in an attempt to
give them some strategies to think about as they look to help their young
athlete to be successful. At the time I wrote this, I was the Varsity
Tennis Coach for Finn Hill so it is addressed to Tennis Parents. I invite
you to read this regardless of the sport your child is in. Please realize
if your child is in another sport, you may need to adapt it to that
specific sport. You may access this letter below.
