Mr. Lucke Leadership Rules & Routines Room 203GRADES in this class will be assigned by a point system. Each quarter grade is one-half the final semester grade. Your letter grade will be determined by the percentage of points you earn in each of 3 categories, assignments (40%), committee work, school & community service & ASB duties (40%) conduct/participation (20%).
The grading scale is as follows: 90-100% = A 87-89% = B+ 77-79% = C+ 67-69% = D+ 83-86% = B 73-76% = C 60-66% = D 80-82% = B- 70-72% = C- 59.4% and below = F
ASSIGNMENTS/REPORTS (40% of grade) This category will include all assignments, readings, and tests. “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens” by Sean Covey is a required text for this class. You will need to purchase this from a local bookstore. If you the cost of this is a burden on your family, one can be checked out with a parent note. Assignments are posted in the front of the class. You will earn points for assignments if the work if it is thorough complete, WRITTEN IN COMPLETE SENTENCES, and turned in ON TIME. I strongly encourage you to check your child's planner each day in order to keep track of his/her current work, late, or missing work. ABSENT WORK: NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT A PARENT NOTE INDICATING IT IS LATE. ALL ABSENT WORK MUST INCLUDE YOUR DATE OF ABSENCE in order to receive full credit, otherwise, you will be given 50% credit. If you anticipate having to turn work in late, make arrangements with me first, before it is late. It will be your responsibility to find the assignments you missed by looking on the board or asking the ASB Secretary or Historian for the ASB calendar where all assignments are written. This is for you to write down any assignments that you may be missing for that week due to sickness, meetings, games, etc. Please ask the Secretary or Historian for that week’s assignment if it is a work sheet. LATE WORK: Any work that is not turned at the time it is collected will be considered late. * All late work will be given 50% credit with a parent signature. NO LATE WORK WILL BE GIVEN CREDIT THAT IS MORE THAN 14 DAYS LATE. (The only exception is lack of time of time due to unavoidable commitments. This requires a written request by a parent must be attached to the late assignment.)
COMMITTEE WORK/ SERVICE HOURS AND ASB DUTIES (40% of grade) You will be asked to help lead at least one ASB committee and participate in several others. Some of this will require you to work outside of class. There will be several days where you are expected to organize and use your time wisely during class to work on special committee projects. Your grade on this component will be based on how much time and effort you put into your school/community service project. Only hours completed after the first day of class and before the end of the quarter will count. Extra hours completed by the end of the first quarter will be carried on to the following quarter. Community Service - You are required to do 1 or 2 community service projects for each quarter that include at least 6 total hours per semester. (3 per quarter) This project may be organized by the school or another group but not your family. After completing your service project, you need to turn in the community service form describing what you did and how it impacted the community as well as yourself. You must also provide a signed verification from a supervising adult and parent that the project was completed as stated in your paragraph.
School Service - You will be called upon to perform 10 hours of committee related work per semester (5 hours per quarter) outside of class time, usually before or after school. There are occasional opportunities to do this on the weekend or in the evening. Opportunities are announced in class periodically. Peak times include Magazine & Clothing Drives, Holiday Baskets, the Talent Show, Dances, ML King and Veterans Assemblies. You are responsible for getting enough hours for the grade you wish to receive, so PLAN AHEAD—the teacher will not be supplying extra opportunities right before the deadline just so you can meet your hours. You need to fill out a School Service form for each activity you do. (Deadline is one week before each quarter ends.)
PARTICIPATION/CONDUCT (20% of grade) Much of leadership involves modeling appropriate behavior and participation in all ASB activities. As leadership students, I will hold you to a higher standard and expect you to model appropriate behavior in all classes as well as participate in, and/or support all school activities. You are expected to actively participate during all committee work days, help keep the class clean, and organized every day before you leave even if you didn’t make the mess. You must check in/out materials that are not from our room, and sign out/in of the class when you need to leave. It is imperative that I know where you are at all times and what you are working on. This portion of your grade also includes but is not limited to conduct/participation in other classes, during passing periods, ASB meetings, extra curricular activities, fundraisers, cleaning up after class activities full participation in all ASB sponsored activities during school such as spirit weeks and others. (see Leadership Conduct Code) Clean-Up - On committee work days, 5 minutes prior to the end of class, ALL WORK needs to wrap up, and the room needs to be thoroughly cleaned. This means all paints, markers, paper, scissors, etc. need to be returned to the cupboard and all finished and unfinished products need to be stored in the appropriate locations. NOBODY WILL BE DISMISSED UNTIL EVERYTHING IS COMPLETELY CLEAN!!!
EXTRA CREDIT in this class may be used to raise your grade 10% for any quarter grade. Please see me after school hours or during my office hours for extra credit. No extra credit will be given within 2 weeks of the end of any quarter.
