Rules and Consequences
CLASSROOM RULES:
1. Listen carefully.
2. Follow directions the first time.
3. Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working.
4. Respect all students' right to learn.
5. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
6. Respect school and personal property.
7. Work and play safely.
8. No eating of anything, including gum, hard candies, and breath mints.
9. Follow all Finn Hill Jr. High and Lake Washington School District rules.
SPECIAL SCIENCE ROOM RULES
1. Use special science equipment carefully and correctly. If you don't know how, ask!
2. Common sense rules prevail. Safety is paramount.
3. WASH your hands thoroughly at the end of science class.
4. Do not waste supplies.
5. Dispose of supplies as directed.
6. No sitting on lab stations and counters.
7. Silliness such as rough housing and squirting water will not be tolerated.
8. WATER bottles are allowed as long as you use them in an adult manner.
CONSEQUENCES
Ø Our science department follows the FHJH discipline procedures outlined in the Student Planner.
1. At least one verbal warning with reminder about expectations.
2. If the behavior issue is disruptive to the class, “processing”, following the FHJH procedures. The student won’t be processed more than twice for the same offense. The next step after processing is lunch detention.
3. If the behavior issue is not disruptive to the class but is keeping the offender from learning, the student will be given lunch detention, following the FHJH procedures.
4. Splashing or squirting water or throwing light-weight items like paper or pens will result in a lunch detention.
5. Future issues with behavior may result in after school detention, meetings with parents (and perhaps the counselor and other teachers), or referrals to the assistant principal.
Ø Misuse of equipment/supplies issue - Student may be sent to the assistant principal, depending on severity of problem, and a fine levied if necessary. Student might be removed from the lab for the day. This does not necessarily include minor glass breakage in labs when accidental.
Ø Safety issue - Student is sent to the assistant principal.
Ø Severe behavior issues – Student is sent to the assistant principal.
Ø A student who has shown to be a danger to themselves or others will be required to have their parent come in before or after school to do at least one lab before the student may rejoin the class in labs.
