What to Expect
New students receive a locker, student I.D., P.E. T-shirt (for fitness requirements), rules and reg planner, and locater card. A Finn Hill student or staff member will show the new student around the school, help locate all classes and introduce him/her to their first period teacher. You can expect a proactive learning environment.  Please see our list of school fees.

Student activities
A complete program of activities for students will be developed during the year. The various activities will be organized in areas of interest as determined by students and teachers. All activities will be planned through the student council, leadership standing committee, and faculty advisors. Some of the activities which may be planned are: theme days, dances, school projects and student assemblies. Assemblies will be planned on the Activity Schedule so that daily classes are not interrupted.

Student government
The Student Council is the governing body of Finn Hill Junior High. There will be an elected representative and alternate to Student Council for every first period class. This representative has the responsibility to provide communication between the students he/she represents and the Student Council.
The purpose of the Student Council is to propose, discuss, and vote on legislation for the good of the school. The final actions of the Student Council are subject to the approval of the principal and assistant principal.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend school regularly. Sickness is considered a valid excuse for absences. Students may also be excused for reasons other than illness if the reasons are justifiable and provided that arrangements are made and written permission is granted by the administration prior to the absence (Prearranged Absence Form). Students will be allowed to make up all missed assignments at the discretion of the teacher. Due dates for assignments will be determined by the teacher. Absence from school or class without the knowledge and consent of either the parents or school authorities is considered truancy. An unexcused absence may result in suspension from school.
After an absence the student must come to the attendance office before school for a permit to re-enter classes. To obtain the permit slip the student must be excused by a parent/guardian by either a signed note or a phone call on the day the student returns. Students who are late must obtain an Admit  to Class slip from the attendance office.
