Unexcused Late work receives

NO CREDIT!

Unexcused late work receives no credit but must be completed satisfactorily for an effort grade.

Why?  Because the assignment is linked to a learning or practice goal, and if you do not do the assignment you will miss the learning or practice and will not be prepared for the assessment (like a test or project) to follow.

Students are each allowed two homework "OOPS" pass per quarter which allows them to be one day late on a small assignment (not  a larger project),  and receive up to full credit. We all occasionally forget things. This enables the student who did their homework but forgot to put it in their school bag to still get credit. You can only make this error twice! It is not a pass to allow you to procrastinate on your homework and get overloaded the next evening. At the end of the quarter, on a given day, any unused homework pass can be turned in for extra credit.

Make-up work after an absence.

Missed assignments are accepted for credit after EXCUSED ABSENCES. The grace period is one day for each day of absence.  Please refer to the school standards for clarification of the grace period for absences during longer projects.

Students must take the responsibility to find out what they have missed and complete the assignment. There is a procedure for this, posted in the classroom, and modeled in class.

On returning from an absence students should:

  •   Check  this website and complete their AGENDA.

  •   Collect any missed handouts from the side counter.

  •  Ask two peers to help explain the missed assignments.

  •   After #1-3 have been completed, Mrs. True will gladly answer any questions during the passing time, and give you a late pass to your next class if necessary.

  • Students who have missed a quiz or test need to schedule a time to take the quiz or test with their teacher in a timely manner. Students who were absent for only the test or quiz day must be prepared to take the test/quiz on the day they return.

  •  Students have one day to make up work for each day absent.  (Special arrangements can be made if you have had a long absence due to illness - ASK!)

  •  All missed assignments should be completed within the given grace period, and put in the appropriate “in” tray with a completed late slip attached. The late slips are in a container, on the wall, above the "in" trays. If there are no more late slips just write the explanatory note on the assignment or add the note on a separate piece of paper and staple to the assignment.

Unexcused Late work receives half credit for two days

Unexcused late work may be turned in up to two days late for half credit. The only exception is if we are reviewing the assignment in class the day it is due; in this case no late work will be accepted for credit. Unexcused late work must be completed satisfactorily and not left undone.

Why?  Because the assignment is linked to a learning or practice goal, and if you do not do the assignment you will miss the learning or practice and will not be prepared for the assessment (like a test or project) to follow.

Make-up work after an absence.

Missed assignments are accepted for credit after EXCUSED ABSENCES for a certain grace period. In this grade 7 science class students who are absent the day an assignment is given will have one week to make up the work.   If the student is absent on the due date of a long-term project, the project is due the day he/she returns.

Students must take the responsibility to find out what they have missed and complete the assignment. There is a procedure for this, posted in the classroom, and modeled in class.

On returning from an absence students should:

  • Come to class between 7.40am and 7.55 am to get the missed work.

  • Check this website and complete their AGENDA.

  •  Collect any missed handouts from the side counter.

  •  Ask two peers to help explain the missed assignments.

  •   After #1-4 have been completed, Mrs.
