Independent Reading

|
The purpose of the independent reading assignments is to help students learn how to read various forms of literature at a deeper level and develop skills that will aid them in handling the reading demands they will face in high school and college. This is a self paced project. Students select a book to fit the given category, get a parent signature, and begin work on reading the book. They are given a packet at the start of each quarter which will help to guide them through their reading. The packet should be done as students read, not left until the last minute. They will work on increasing their vocabulary, learn how to focus on meaningful quotes, and develop skills in asking critical questions about content. At the end of the quarter students will sit down with me for a "book chat" and we will discuss their work and their reading experience.
