"The School
Media Specialist encourages and supports lifelong learning and literacy by
maintaining an up-to-date diverse collection of materials in a variety of
formats, by teaching research and information skills which result in
self-reliant and critical users of information, by promoting a love of reading
and by supporting curriculum with instruction and resources.
Please note: At the end of each level,
students should have had experience with each critical content area. Students
will not necessarily have instruction in each content area every year.
Level One - Grades K, 1, 2
- Understands and uses
circulation procedures.
- Use proper care with
materials and books
- Experience a variety of
genres and types of books that support the Curriculum Framework .
- Develop literature
appreciation.
- Receive an introduction to
research process.
- Explore electronic
information retrieval systems.
- Develop awareness of
multimedia technology.
- Understand parts of a book.
Level Two - Grades 3,4,5
- Understand organizational
system of the Library.
- Increase competence and
independent use of the Library.
- Explore a variety of genres
and types of books that support the Curriculum Framework.
- Develop literature
appreciation.
- Use the research process.
- Use electronic retrieval
systems to access a variety of information.
- Become familiar with current
multi-media technology and production.
- Use a variety of print
informational resources.
Level Three - Grades 6, 7, 8
- Use Library sources
independently.
- Become familiar with junior
high library facility and resources.
- Continue to explore a variety
of genres and types of books that support the Curriculum Framework.
- Continue to use the research
process.
- Explore a variety of search
techniques.
- Use electronic retrieval
systems to access relevant information from a variety of sources.
- Use increased variety of
telecommunication technology.
