Read Across America 2004

Congratulations to Mrs. Rhinevault’s sixth grade class and to Mrs. Brown’s Kindergarten classes.  They were the first intermediate and primary classes to read across America during the week of March 2nd – 5th.  Every minute read equaled one mile on their trek from Seattle to New York, about 3,000 miles.

Lots of fun reading activities went on at Blackwell on March 2nd, which was Dr. Seuss’s 100th birthday!  Mrs. Hackbarth, our wonderful Assistant Principal, read Dr. Seuss books in classrooms while wearing her special Cat-In-The-Hat hat!  Big buddies from Ms. Thompson’s fifth grade class shared books with kindergarten buddies from Mrs. Brown’s class.  The whole school started the day with a pledge to reading, students ate green eggs and ham, classes had read-ins, students surveyed others regarding their favorite Dr. Seuss book, and more.  (See pictures below!)
