Library Checkout Policies
Kindergarten students may borrow one book each week. (As the year progresses, they may be allowed to have two books.) Kindergarten books are due the following week. (Photo: Mr. Townsend checks out books to third grade boys.)
First and second grade students
may check out three books for a five school day loan period. Students in grades 3rd – 6th
may check out five books, for a 10 school day checkout period. Holidays, vacations, and weekends do not count as
checkout days. Items may be
renewed.
(Check the due date slips in the
back of the books!)
Students who need more books for research may exceed their limit. Students with books overdue may not check out any more books until the item(s) have been returned or paid for. Items that are damaged or lost will be assessed a replacement fee. Students that have outstanding items at the end of the year will not receive their report cards until the item(s) has been returned or paid for.
Any student that has a question
about an overdue book is encouraged to check with the Library staff right away.
Notices for items that are considered lost are mailed home.
Library materials should be
returned to the blue classroom baskets, which are brought to the Library each
day. Students do NOT need to wait until their Library class day to return
materials. Students may renew materials by bringing them to the Library during
their weekly Library class or during lunch recess.
We suggest that your child have
a designated place at home for keeping track of Library books. The ability to
select and return Library materials is a lifelong skill, and your child’s
responsibility!
