I was born in Yakima, Washington, and moved to Kirkland in 1965 where I attended Central Elementary School, Kirkland Junior High, and Lake Washington High School. I then moved to Bellevue in 1971 and graduated from Interlake High School in 1973. I attended Pacific Lutheran University in 1973 where I played football and wrestled. After an extended hiatus, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Seattle University in 1983 with a B.A. in education.
I was hired by the Lake Washington School District in 1984 to teach English at Evergreen Jr. High. At Evergreen, I worked as a faculty trainer teaching "Writing Across the Curriculum." I received training in T.E.S.A. (Teacher Expectations and Student Equity), participated in a year long "Cooperative Learning" in-service taught by David and Roger Johnson, and in "Project Read" with the International Reading Association. While still at Evergreen, I was awarded the "Walt Ferguson Service Award" by the PTSA and was a representative to the national convention of the National Council of English Teachers. In 1990, I moved to the newly opened Inglewood Jr. High where I taught for one year before sitting out the 1991-92 school year to stay home with my infant daughter, Kelly.
I started teaching at BEST in 1992 where I have been a member of the district technology planning team and the Level 5 Research and Development Team. I received my Masters Degree in Educational Technology from City University in 1995 and I am currently teaching English and history at BEST.
