The BEST Child Lab is licensed by the state of Washington and the license is
displayed in the Child Lab. We are inspected periodically by regulatory
agencies to ensure the best care for the children in the areas of health, safety
and specific requirements mandated by state standards. The child lab is
licensed for 12 children ages six weeks to four years old and is separated into
an infant area and a toddler area. Children are supervised by two Lake
Washington School District employees and assisted by teen parents and/or
students of BEST High School interested in the field of child development.
The child lab is overseen by a director to ensure the quality of the program is
to the highest standards. It is our goal to provide a safe and loving
environment where children are stimulated and nurtured so teen parents can
finish their high school education. First priority is given to Lake
Washington School District students but is open to all applicants if there is
space available.

STUDENT WORKER REQUIREMENTS
Monthly training/Meeting

monthly meetings. The purpose of the meetings is to encourage open
communication about issues concerning the day care, workers, parents, and
children. Meeting are also scheduled to provide training in CPR, health,
discipline techniques, safety, and other related topics.
1.
Attendance at the meetings are mandatory
2.
Daily credit will be given
TB Testing
Each person who signs up to work in the Day Care must have a TB Test.
This is a requirement for anyone working with children at this center or any
other. If you have already had the test, bring documentation to the Day Care
Supervisor. The tests are provided at the school by a nurse from Eastside
Public Health. You need to have the test and then 48 to 72 hours later it
needs to be read. The Public Health nurse provides both of these services.
If you do not have the test here at school, you will need to get it on your
own with your doctor or the public health office.
Criminal History Background Checks
Each worker will be asked to fill out a background check, which will be
sent into the state. Law requires a criminal history check for anyone
working in a licensed daycare.
Chores
Each worker is to do a chore each day. When you enter the day care, pick
out a chore from the appropriate period, do the chore, put the card in the
finished folder. Full credit will not be given if chores are not completed.
Record Keeping
Each student is responsible for recording certain activities done with
the children. If you change a diaper, you need to record it on the message
board. If a child gets injured while you are with them, that too will need
to be recorded and the Supervisor needs to be alerted.
Toddler/Infant Room
Depending on how many and what age children are using the day care, we
will have some workers stay on the infant side of the room and others on the
toddler side. A daily schedule will be posted on the front board to let you
know what side you will be on for that day. When you are assigned to a
specific side you need to go to that side and do what the Supervisor asks
you to do.
