Intramural Program:

Thoreau's Intramural Sports Program is set up to provide fair-weather activities for all 4th, 5th, and 6th graders who wish to participate. Flag football is provided in the fall months and softball is available during April, May, and June. Boys and girls are equally encouraged to participate in these activities, which are held during lunch recess. Indoor activities are limited because our gym is scheduled for regular P.E. classes throughout our lunch recess times.

The main thrust of the program is to provide extra-curricular activities and opportunities, not only for the eager athletes, but, also, for those students who have otherwise had little or no opportunity for involvement in an organized athletic activity where they feel comfortable and the stress level of team competition is greatly reduced.

Active participation, success, and enjoyment by all interested students are the main features of our program. Participation in each of these sports usually involves 150 - 200 students. The organization, maintenance, and operating activities are equally shared and run by Mr. Warnick and Mr. Elsworth.
