PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVE

Our staff is looking forward to this time of conferencing with all of you. This is a great time to ask questions about your child’s progress and what he or she will be learning during the winter quarter. It is a good idea to write down your questions ahead of time so you don’t forget them when conferencing.

You may wish to stop by our library and browse the Scholastic Book Fair. Please read the days and hours of operation in the relayed article of this Frog News. It’s a great opportunity for you and your child to shop together for great books!

Last, but not least, as you conference at school, please take a moment to check our Lost and Found area, located in the hall on the first floor by the elevator. All items not claimed by December 16 will be donated to a local clothing bank.

Choice Schools

Please make sure you read the back side of this Thoreau News under “Choice Schools”. Now is the time to attend informational meetings if you are interested in any of the district’s choice schools for your child for the 2005-2006 school year. If you wait until the spring time, it will be too late, as they will have long waiting lists.

HIV/AIDS CURRICULUM PARENT INFO. NIGHT

Mark your calendars: The HIV/AIDS Parent Information night is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17, from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Board Room of the Lake Washington School District Resource Center. FREE DENTAL SEALANT DAY!

The Lake Wash. Dental Hygienists’ Society is offering a preventive dental program, Saturday, February 4, 2006, from 9am to 4pm. They provide dental sealants, exams, bitewing x-rays, and fluoride varnish Free of charge to children who would not otherwise be able to receive a cavity prevention treatment. Children whose teeth are unable to be sealed due to decay will have their cavities filled at a later date, Free of charge. Sealants are white coatings that are applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They are non-toxic and protect the teeth from cavities. This process is painless, can protect you child’s teeth for 6-8 years and is usually done in less than one hour. Registered dental hygienists from the state of Washington will place the sealants on your child’s teeth. Space is limited. Call the dental clinic at Lake Wash. Technical College, 425 739-8130, as soon as possible to make an appointment. Their hours are 9:00am to 4:00pm, Mondays through Fridays.

Even though is was cold and pouring down rain, Cub Scout Den 2 (Ryan B., Nate B., Ian E., Bjorn L., present, and Brandon N., Ben B. William B. and Ben M. in spirit) were thinking of spring when planting about 60 tulip and iris bulbs in the front gardens of Thoreau last weekend. Thank you!
