Dear Parents,
It’s time when I have decided to send home a print out of the last month’s Accelerated Reading work for your child. In addition to the 20 minutes of reading you are providing at home, I include 30 minutes of uninterrupted silent reading every morning. While this list does not include all reading your child is doing at school, it is an indicator of effort and sustained focus as your child takes that next step into becoming a solid, fluent reader. As before, we like to see students stay in that 88-92% correct level at an appropriate level. An average second grader can be reading in his zone anywhere from 2.2-6.2. The question being, not how fast or how accurately can the child read, but rather what does he or she take away in terms of understanding new vocabulary and concepts.
