April Fools

Well there were quite a few tricks pulled this April fools day. Shae Telford showed up with a fake earring, while Alex Shuey tried to convince me that his dog had died. I found that my head seems to have a collection of spiders living or developing some sort of colony up there. Turns out it was only an April fools joke! The best was when I thought I had lost my class. I thought I had taken them to P.E., but they were so funny when I found them hiding in Mrs. Sylvestal’s class next door.

Thanks kids for a great April fools day!

Seattle Children’s Theater

On April 8th, 2004 the second graders from Samantha Smith Elementary are going to travel to the Seattle Children’s Theater to see the play “Mrs. Piggle-wiggle”. It should be a wonderful experience. We have been on a waiting list since August and a class drop out of this time slot, so we are taking advantage of this opportunity. I know this has been such short notice but I and the other 2nd grade teachers appreciate your support in this matter.

Class Website

It is here, the official class web site. We are going to try and get a lot of the kids work and pictures on the web so that you will be able to see what your child has been working on in school. The website also has a homework page for those students who loose their homework, it has a list of spelling words for the week and I am working on getting the math worksheet scanned in and up for download. Please if you have any input on the site, or things you would like to see there please feel free to email me. (scornwall@lkwash.wednet.edu)

Things to Come

In April we are going to be starting our unit on Monet, a very famous French artist, know for his garden and his impressions of them. We will be doing some of our own impressionism art work, while researching his life and that famous garden of his. We will also continue to work on our fractions this month. It really is a tough concept. We will also be moving into some higher math, adding and subtracting three digits with regrouping.
