Dear Rose Hill Parents and Guardians,

Our staff and I welcome you and your child this new school year. We have been busy for the past few weeks getting prepared for our students’ arrival. We have been in professional development sessions, attended a breakfast with Superintendent Chip Kimball, and created welcoming classrooms where our students will learn, succeed, grow and develop new friendships with both peers and adults in our school community.

We are excited to have some new members on our faculty this year. Joining us will be

  • Kelly Gilbert in our full day intervention classroom,
  • Lauren Whiting in 1st grade,
  • Nicole Derbyshire in 3rd grade, and
  • Breayne Roosa in 4th grade.

Our staff photos are posted in the main hallway across from the office so drop by and get acquainted with us all!

This year we will be changing our lunch schedule with the goal of increasing student performance through an improved lunchroom atmosphere, improved nutrient consumption and less food waste. Research by the King County Board of Health has proven that “recess before lunch” has great impact on student learning. Schools that have adopted this schedule have noted gains in relaxed, healthier students. Our lunch schedule in the Student Parent Handbook will be the same, however, the lunch and recess times will be reversed. There will be a snack time in the mid-morning, so students may bring snacks for themselves. There will also be some changes in our lunchroom procedures to create a quieter environment that we hope will help our students.

I hope that your child goes home today excited and eager to tell you all about their first day of school. It is our intent to make your child’s “home away from home” a place that they look forward to going to everyday. We want them to feel connected, safe, respected, challenged and successful as people and as learners.

I look forward to working together to making this a highly eventful year at our school. In my monthly newsletters, we will share some of the many things that are happening here. Please come and join us in our children’s education!

Respectfully,

Principal
